I just got accepted into THREAD at Yale, a gathering of professional non-fiction journalists and storytellers pushing boundaries in modern media. As an image-maker soon to be surrounded by mostly literary artists, this experience is going to literally transform my practice in storytelling and I cannot wait to join this small group of mighty minds and learn from masters in the field, and most importantly from each other!

lil history about the program: THREAD is an offshoot of the Yale Journalism Initiative (YJI). YJI was founded in 2006 to encourage Yale students to consider careers in journalism. The Initiative’s faculty so far have included Steven Brill, Jill Abramson, Mark Schoofs, and Bob Woodward (by far one of my favorite biographers of all time!), and its alumni, called Yale Journalism Scholars, now work at major storytelling platforms from The New York Times to NPR, from PBS to Slate and Buzzfeed and beyond.

In order for me to live out some of these childhood dreams of studying, nerding out, and learning from the best in my field, ya boi has to pay some dues to hang in the Ivy World, because *capitalism*.

Here's the breakdown (Big Freeda voice):

  • ((TRAVEL))
    • Round-trip from MSP to HVN: $600.00
  • ((TUITION))
    • $1,895.00
      • $500 deposit due May 14th
      • Paid in full ($1,395.00) by May 21st
  • ((LODGING))
    • $295.00

TOTAL: $2,790.00

With your donation, I will be able to connect with others in (and around) my field who can provide me the elevated perspective in how to transform my wordless pieces into impactful visual essays that can be used to drive real social change!

Thank you! <3
