The Self: A Reflection Beyond The Lens

Every few months, I lock myself in my home and spend the entire day taking self-portraits. I've never been approached by any photographer to be their subject, so I take up the responsibility to capture myself, not waiting for anyone to become interested in my story. My mentors always stressed to me to archive my work, develop deeper relationships with my creative peers, making sure I am always challenging myself, improving my practice, and documenting my life outside the bubble of work.

It takes a lot of vulnerability, trust and self-love to capture yourself in ways that you capture the essence of others. I spend so much time getting to know other people through portraits, I neglect - knowingly and bluntly - to do more of that for myself. So, today was one of those days.
